CLASSES WILL BE SWITCHING TO TUESDAYS AS OF AUGUST 18TH!
5:00 PM – 6:15 PM Weekly
Doors open @ 4:45PM
Each session runs 75 minutes, which is ideal for younger children to stay engaged and focused.
We have a 10 person maximum limit on each time slot.
This is a general introduction to Epee fencing, focusing often on fun, purposeful games, fitness, coordination and teaching the basic skills of Epee fencing.
Students will be streching, exercising, learning in small groups and doing actual fencing.
This class primarily uses slightly reduced sized, but fully functional Olympic weapons.
This youth class is taught by USFCA Coach Lauren Reese, USA Fencing referee Reese Butta and assisted by other NIFC fencers.
Students should wear jeans or sweatpants, a short-sleeved shirt, any kind of cross trainer athletic shoes, and bring something to drink. We do sell water and sports drinks at the club.
Suitable for ages 6 to 12.
All necessary equipment will be provided.
If a student takes this class for a few months and wants higher skill level fencing we will recommend they move up to one of our classes with Olympian Marek Stepien for more skills based training that could lead toward competitive level fencing. Students working with Coach Marek are required to join our Fencing Club. Coach Marek's focus, while still fun, is more serious, with more repetitive and precise skills work. His classes and private lessons focus on students looking into a long term commitment to fencing, competitions and eventually toward collegiate scholarships. His students are required to own their own equipment, our club will assist in getting serious students their own gear, often at a discount.

PARENTAL NOTICE: These special YOUTH oriented classes will feature both plastic weapons and reduced size, but fully operational steel weapons that are more suitable for youth fencers. This is an athletic activity that can build both the mind and the body as fencing is very much a mental sport. We have special safety equipment for youth fencing.
