Fall Safety
As we enter the Fall Equinox with days becoming shorter, many will be tempted to run in the dark. With that in mind, we provide the basic safety tips below to consider. As it relates to Carry essentials, the Club has purchased 120 whistles with lanyards and will be giving those away at the September 27th race.
Before You Run
While Running
- Stay alert: Keep music volume low or use one earbud so you can hear traffic, people, or animals.
- Follow traffic rules: Run against traffic when on roads and use sidewalks or trails when available.
- Vary your routes: Avoid being too predictable with time and location.
- Carry essentials: ID, phone, and (if needed) pepper spray or a whistle.
- Stay hydrated: Bring water or plan routes near fountains on longer runs.
General Safety
- Run with a buddy: There’s safety (and motivation) in numbers.
- Be mindful of dogs: Give them space, even if they seem friendly.
- Trust your instincts: If something feels off—change direction or seek safety.
