2020 Pere Marquette Trail Run Cancelled
Letter from Race Directors
Metro Tri Club has been working with Pere Marquette State Park management and Illinois Department of Natural Resources regarding the 2020 race scheduled for December 12, 2020. Earlier this summer, we submitted our permit application with a 22 page COVID-19 Mitigation Plan. The plan addressed how we intended to comply with all State mandates related to COVID-19.
Pere Marquette park management was a great help in putting together our permit application and COVID-19 plan. The park staff have always been a great supporter of the event. However, the permit application must be approved at the State level. Given current COVID-19 restrictions, the State recently notified us the permit could only be issued for 50 people with that number subject to be reduced based on COVID-19 numbers.
Sadly, the race cannot occur without the proper permits and approvals. The Metro Tri Club and race team are extremely disappointed and were looking forward to an epic race. So, we step back, take a deep breath, and start planning for 2021. Mark your calendars for December 11, 2021.
In the meantime, Pere Marquette park is still open to the public for individual runs. Get out and run the incredible trails that we are all blessed to be able to utilize. And while there, thank a park staff member for their continued efforts maintaining and improving the trails. They do a great job with very limited resources and always appreciate a kind word.
