Starting Monday at 7 AM, I will begin a 100 mile run at
the 7th Annual Snowdrop 55 Hour Run at Buffalo Run Park in Missouri
City, TX. I am doing this to raise money
and awareness for research and scholarships for pediatric cancer patients. This
run came to be because in December, 2005, a man met a fifteen-year-old girl
battling cancer. One day, the little girl mentioned to the man that there were
walks and runs to benefit all kinds of cancers, but none for children’s cancer.
The man decided to change that. So, to
honor the brave little girl Chelsey Campbell, Kevin Kline the man, created
Snowdrop Foundation, a non-profit organization benefiting children’s cancer research
to fulfill the little girl’s dream.
I am running this amazing event for the 2nd time and this will be my 299th marathon or longer. I will pray for the kids, be inspired by the
pictures of many who have received their angel wings as well as smile at the
survivor pictures. I am also dedicating
this run to my West Point classmate and roommate Bill Sumner who is battling
brain cancer. Ranger Bill is tough as
nails but lights up a room with his personality. He is scheduled to transition
to hospice this coming week. While many are running for a child, I will run with Bill on my mind and in my prayers throughout the
event.
As I am a kidney cancer survivor, it is the least that I
can do to run and pray for a cure. If
you feel moved to donate to the amazing Snowdrop Foundation, please do. I know that I have asked for donations for
Veterans in previous runs but now let’s do it for the children. Can you help with $5? Please click on the link below, and scroll
down the page to where the purple button says, “Make a Donation”. Thank You.
