Wow we are here again! As you have seen from me in the past I am running for the Snowdrop Foundation! Snowdrop raises funds to be used towards pediatric cancer research and college scholarships for students who have had or are leaving with cancer. As we run circles around Buffalo Run Park in Missouri City, Texas we will be surrounded by faces of children who are currently fighting cancer, who have won their battle, or unfortunately have earned their angel wings. These faces drive us, the runners, in circles knowing what they have gone through, what their families have gone through, is far worse than the pain and difficulty of attempting to run at least 100 miles in 55 hours. As many publicized stories there have been in the last several years about pediatric cancer and patients, there has been no increase in federal spending on research towards a cure (4% of federal funded cancer research goes to children's' cancers) and there is a current shortage of one of the major medications used to treat pediatric cancer because ONE of the TWO pharmaceutical companies that produces it decided to stop making it. After major backlash they have starting producing the medication again, but it makes you wonder why they thought it wasn't important to keep producing a drug that saves children's lives?
Help us continue to find the research at Texas Children's Hospital so that one day we don't have to run a race surrounded by the faces of children who have suffered.
The picture below includes hundreds of crosses, these crosses represent each child who will lose their battle and earn their angel wings while we are running for 55 hours. We have to try and make that number smaller.
