We are walking/running to remember our sweet Jack.
Jack was 5 years old when he lost his life to Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) on May 31, 2017.
When Jack was 14 months old he started having febrile seizures. These seizures only occurred when he would run a fever. We were told that this was normal in children and that it was very likely that he would grow out of them by the time he was 5 or 6.
When Jack was 2.5 years old, he had 8 seizures in a 24 hour period and we were admitted to Cook Childrens. The 8th seizure was without fever so they started him on a seizure medication. After 6 months he was off medication and we were released from the neurologist.
In March, 2016, Jack was 4 years old and he had a seizure at school waking up from nap. Since this day he fought daily seizures. We experimented with 5 different medications hoping to find the right medication/dosage to control his seizures. He was diagnosed with partial complex epilepsy with secondary generalization.
His seizures were mostly predictable as they happened going to sleep and waking from sleep. We hoped and prayed that he would not have to deal with epilepsy for the rest of his life. Even though God answered our prayer, our hearts will forever ache for him.
Jack never knew a stranger, and everyone was his best friend. He loved with his whole heart and was always smiling. He loved Mickey Mouse, M&Ms, Yogurt, Oreos, Batman, wearing "Aggie", watching movies and playing with his cousins and friends.
Jack made a big impact and taught us so much in his short time on Earth. He taught us to find joy in the small things, love big, and be nice to everyone.
We believe he was truly an angel on this Earth. We will always remember him and strive to live our lives to the fullest, just as he did.
