Since 1986, the Houston Bar Association has raised over $1 Million for THE CENTER. Please join us in continuing to support this worthwhile cause by participating in the 8K Race, the Children's Run or the 1-Mile Family Walk.

  • 1-Mile Children's Run 7:30 a.m.
  • 8K Wheelchair Division 7:50 a.m.
  • 8K Run 8:00 a.m.
  • 1-Mile Family Walk 8:30 a.m.

THE CENTER, a private, non-profit corporation, is a United Way agency dedicated to offering people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to reach their full potential and to contribute to their community. One hundred percent of your entry fee for the John J. Eikenburg Law Week Fun Run is contributed directly to THE CENTER and helps support a variety of programs designed to provide education, job training, socialization, community living, and health care for people with intellectual disabilities.

Pre-race Equipment Pickups and Errands
These volunteers will be responsible for renting the truck and picking up the race equipment on Friday, March 11, 2016. One person will be responsible for the equipment contracts. The others will be responsible for a truck rental expense, renting/driving the truck, and picking up/returning the equipment

These volunteers will assemble the team and large group packets at The Center on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at 5-8 p.m. This usually takes about 3 hours. One volunteer will need to coordinate with The Center for delivery of shirts and packets to Fleet Feet (Woodway) for Thursday packet pick-up.

These volunteers will help set-up race equipment. The volunteers will need to be at The Center at 5:15 a.m. for setting out race equipment and at the start line at 6:00 a.m. for further work.

These volunteers will mark the turn-around point on the one-mile course, supervise, and cheer. The Children`s Race is at 7:30 a.m. The One-Mile Walk is at 8:30 a.m.

Water Tables
These volunteers will staff the water tables starting at 7:30 a.m. There are tables at the start/finish, at Montrose and Allen Parkway, and at The Center.

Timekeepers
Four volunteers will be on the course to serve as timekeepers (calling out times from a stop watch as runners pass). The volunteers will need to be on the course at 7:30 a.m. We also need volunteers to drive the timekeepers to their spots on the course.

Equipment Takedown/Removal
These volunteers will take down race equipment, load it into a truck, and return it. Other volunteers will help return items to the HBA office. Others will return water bottles to The Center. Volunteers will need to be at the finish line at 10:00 a.m.
