About the Cause
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the leading preventable viral cause of developmental disabilities in newborns, but less than 20% of people have ever heard of it. Therefore, awareness of CMV and the potential resulting disabilities is critical. Pregnant women need to learn about the risk of infection and the three simple steps they can take to minimize that risk. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) both recommend CMV counseling for pregnant women. For more details, please click on the CMV Information tab above.
