2020 USA FIT Houston Fall Training Programs starts May 16, 2020
 

There is nothing like training for a marathon or half-marathon. You will be fit, happy, and mentally strong. USA FIT Houston has over thirty years of experience helping people of all ability levels live up to their mental and physical potential. All ability levels are welcome, including walkers. Join us and change your life! Fall or Winter training programs available.  However, this year is going to start off differently. 

Some of you may wonder if you should be running right now and most doctors will tell you ‘Yes’, just make sure you are keeping your social distance.  Plan and make it happen.  We will train you either as a group or virtually help you get ready for your fall race. 

USA Fit Houston’s Fall FIT program will begin in May and will train members for Chicago, New York, Marine Corps, Rock N Roll San Antonio, and Las Vegas Marathons. We will also help you to prepare for and run the Houston Half-Marathon. 

You’ll receive ability - based training, inspired coaching, and camaraderie with other athletes-in-training, not to mention the improved wellbeing that comes from participation in a consistent fitness program with coaches who care about your success!

USA Fit Houston Fall & Winter 2020-21 sessions: 

Traditional Marathon and Half Marathon Group (13:44-): Marathon and Half-Marathon participants should be able to complete a 3-mile distance either running or walking at a comfortable 13 minutes 44 seconds per mile or faster. Both the Marathon and Half-Marathon programs offer a training style to meet your needs. These styles include a 5/1 group (5 minutes running and 1-minute walking, 10/1 group (10 minutes running and 1-minute walking) and an all run group (continuous running, no walking). 

Purple Marathon and Half Marathon Group (13:45+): This group consists of joggers and walkers that can complete a 3-mile distance at paces from 13 minutes and 45 seconds and up. This is a lower intensity training program for those of you who wish to train to walk or jog a half-marathon or marathon. 

Team FIT Marathon Group (13:44-): Team FIT is an intermediate level training program with a unique approach. It is intended to bridge the gap between the traditional marathon group and the Advanced Training Program (ATP). Team FIT is a great fit for runners who want to improve form, increase efficiency, break through training plateaus, increase aerobic capacity, and develop balanced strength with injury prevention. Team FIT has a more rigorous schedule than our traditional training group and will require more consistency and commitment from the runner. The workouts are longer and more intense; therefore, it is best if runners have a 6-month base before starting.  

     Below are suggested Team FIT base guidelines: 

  • Half Marathon Base: Long Run of 4-6 miles along with running 3 other days of the week for a minimum of 30 minutes 
  • Full Marathon Base: Long Run 6-8 miles along with running 3 other days of the week for a minimum of 30 minutes 

Advanced Training Program (ATP): ATP is an advanced level training program which takes you through a progression of general, special, specific, and explosive strength training with an intense focus on the demands of marathon running.  The core training philosophy embodied in this program emphasizes quality over quantity. Weekly, the ATP program consists of paced long runs, speed drills, core strengthening workouts, strength exercises, and plyometric exercises. The workouts are more advanced; therefore, it is suggested that the participants have completed a half marathon prior to starting the program. Once training begins, runners will successfully run 20-30 miles per week without much trouble. This program is ideal for the runner whose goal is to reduce their marathon and half marathon finishing time.

REFER A FRIEND PROGRAM – If you are a returning member and you refer a new member, you will receive a $15 discount on your membership fee. When your new friend(s) register, just have them enter YOUR name in the field: “If you were referred by a Houston Fit member, please give us that member's name." At the close of registration, if your name is listed, you will receive a $15 refund on the credit card you registered with.
