Train with an Olympic Fencer – Fencing Program with Master Coach Marek Piotr Stępień
Give Your Child the Opportunity to Learn Fencing from a premier World-Class Expert!
We are excited to announce a unique fencing program in Indiana led by Marek Piotr Stępień, an Olympic fencer, multiple-time national champion, World Championship medalist, and internationally recognized fencing coach. With over 40 years of experience, Master Stępień has coached at some of the most prestigious institutions and has trained athletes who have competed at the highest levels worldwide, including training Olympic fencers. Students who show continued interest can continue monthly as the format of these small classes offer individualized instruction so students can advance from beginner to competitor! Coach Marek has a long history of teaching kids from youth up through their collegiate competitions. If you are looking for a sport where your child can excel consider fencing!
Your child has the extraordinary opportunity to learn the art of fencing under of one of the most accomplished coaches in the sport.
Coach Marek will offer 1 session each Thursday at a cost of $25 per week.
4:50 PM – 5:35 PM Weekly
Each session would run for 45 minutes, which is ideal for younger children to stay engaged and focused.
We have a 10 person maximum limit on each session.
Students should wear jeans or sweatpants, a short-sleeved shirt, any kind of cross trainer athletic shoes, and bring something to drink.
Suitable for ages 6 to 14.
All necessary equipment will be provided.
You must complete the Trial Membership application with the USA Fencing organization prior to the first class (or on arrival at our Facility). In order for the trial membership to be valid, you MUST select "Northwest Indiana Fencing Club" in the club field.

CONTINUOUS ENROLLMENT:
PLEASE REGISTER FOR YOUR CHILD'S FIRST SESSION THROUGH THIS REGISTRATION PAGE. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR NIFC WAIVERS TO BE SIGNED PRIOR TO THEIR FIRST SESSION.
AT THE CONCLUSION OF THEIR FIRST SESSION, YOU MAY PAY IN CLUB FOR FUTURE SESSIONS.

NIFC beginners' classes teach the basics of fencing Olympic Style Saber, including rules and etiquette, footwork, attack, defense, use of electric equipment, strategy & tactics, how to referee, safety, and participation in competitions.
The class will run for eight Thursdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm and will be taught by club president Bob Skurka, and assisted by senior club members.
Students should wear jeans or sweatpants, a short-sleeved shirt, any kind of cross trainer athletic shoes, and bring something to drink.
The 2025 cost of the class is $160 (Family discounts will be available).
Suitable for ages 10 and above.

Please keep in mind that due to the size of our facility, space is limited, and early pre-registration is the only way to guarantee a place in the class.

PARENTAL: We are NOT teaching 'theatrical' fencing. These classes teach the basics of an Olympic style athletic sport. We use real weapons in these classes. Students should have normal physical strength, physical coordination and mental focus. For the SAFETY of both the volunteer coaches and the students, we expect student to be able to pay attention and follow the instructions of the coaches.
Saber classes are "all age" classes with students typically aged from 10 to 60 years old, taught by volunteer coaches.
Epee classes are "all age" classes with students typically aged from 12 to 60 years old, taught by volunteer coaches.
Foil classes are "all age" classes with students typically aged from 14 to 60 years old, taught by volunteer coaches.
Youth Epee is taught to students ages 6 - 14 by professional Master Coach Marek Stepien, using either plastic or scaled down Olympic style weapons.
