Corridor in the Community – Market After Dark, Cedar Rapids, IA
On August 24th, the Corridor Running Board of Directors volunteered at Market After Dark. We staffed one of the community’s beverage tents at the market and tips were donated by customers.
Van Horn Auto of Newhall volunteered for the shift before us and they donated their tips to Corridor Running. Combining the two shifts tips and an equal match by Corridor Running donated $502.50 to the Linn County Trails Association.

Corridor Running to Take Full Reigns of RUN CRANDIC Marathon
IOWA CITY (October 15, 2019) – The RUN CRANDIC marathon event, the run connecting Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, will be held for the third consecutive year on Sunday, April 26, 2020. This time, Corridor Running takes over full organizational responsibility of the event.
RUN CRANDIC started in 2018 as a partnership between Think Iowa City, Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, and Corridor Running. Corridor Running is a membership-based non-profit focused on promoting running for a healthy lifestyle and organizing races throughout the area.
“The plan from day one was for our organizations to work together to get this long-desired marathon established,“ said Josh Schamberger, President of Think Iowa City. “Then, let the experts run with it…pun intended.”
The run has historically routed itself through six municipalities, two counties, on the University of Iowa campus, and effects traffic to the Eastern Iowa Airport. Coordinating all of those entities for the first time required the efforts of all three organizations. “Think Iowa City and the Economic Alliance have been outstanding partners in all of our planning efforts the past two years. We had a shared vision for what this race can be and we look forward to moving it forward to be the signature road race in Iowa,” said Mark Powers, President of Corridor Running. “We established the blue print together, now we can take the baton from here.”
While the exact route won’t be announced for several weeks, in 2020 the marathon will start from Cedar Rapids and end in Iowa City as it did in the first year. A half marathon, 10K, and 5K are all also planning to take place.
In the first two years combined, over 6,000 people participated in RUN CRANDIC and raised nearly $70,000 for area schools.
Planning is well underway for the 2020 event. Powers said, “We’ll have many more exciting announcements leading up to a great race in April. Get your training plans in place now, and if you don’t know where to start…we can help you get there as well.”
