Scholarship Information and Application Instructions

Eligibility:

High school senior from the Bay Area of Houston, Texas who has run cross country or track and will be attending an accredited college or university.

Award:

Two scholarships will be awarded. Each scholarship will be $1000. Bay Area Running Club (BARC) will send the scholarship funds directly to the colleges or universities on behalf of the winners. Half will be sent in the Fall semester 2024 and half in the Spring 2025.

Application:

  1. One page resume of the applicant’s high school career, including academics as well as extracurricular activities.
  2. An essay, 1-3 pages, well written and compelling, clearly demonstrating the applicant's connection with running.

Selection Criteria:

The selection is subjective, but will favor individuals who can demonstrate one or more of the following:

  1. Running is a valuable part of his/her life.
  2. Demonstration of giving back to the running community.
  3. Intention of making running an aspect of his/her future life.
  4. Solid academics
  5. Financial need
  6. It is not necessary for the applicant to be a member of our club. Many, if not most, winners have not been members. However, BARC membership is advantageous, particularly when the voting is close, so the selection panel encourages noting BARC membership and/or volunteer involvement.

No later than Monday, April 29th, 2024, 11:59pm.

Selection Process:

A panel of Bay Area Running Club members will choose the scholarship recipients.

Presentation:

Once the selection process has been completed, the winners will be notified and invited to our club meeting on Monday, May 13th to be recognized.
