Safe Running Tips

Running Tips to help keep you safe

 

  • Try to get a running partner or 2.   There is safety in numbers.
  •  
  • Leave word with someone where you plan to run and when you expect to return.
  •  
  • Carry some id.
  •  
  • Avoid unpopulated areas, deserted streets, and lonely trails, especially avoiding unlighted areas at night.

  • Vary the route and the time of day that you run.
  •  
  • Run against traffic.
  •  
  • Be especially vigilant at intersections.  DO NOT assume the car will stop for you!, even if you are in the crosswalk.
  •  
  •  
  • If you are running after dark or before sunrise, wear reflective clothing and use a headlamp.
  •  
  • If you wear headphones, leave one out so you are aware of your surroundings.
