A Word of Motivation
Do not underestimate the power of BELIEF! In my opinion, training for a marathon is 40% physical, 60% mental while running a marathon is 90% mental. Top athletes always come from a place of confidence without self-doubt.
Self-doubt is what holds most athletes from tapping into their true potential.
I use a phrase “no excuses” quite a bit in my personal training. The reason I use this phrase is because of its motivating power for me. An excuse is just another way of reducing my true potential. Find what works for you and repeat it during your marathon.
Marathoners come in all shapes, sizes, ages, and abilities.
I am often reminded of the power of belief when I hear of people like Harriette Thompson, a 91 year old marathoner who finished the San Diego Marathon in 2015 or how about when Nike dropped Meb Keflezighi from sponsorship, because he was too old? He never doubted his ability and promptly proved Nike wrong by winning the prestigious 2014 Boston Marathon! Rick Hoyt, born with cerebral palsy, told his father in 1977 that he wanted to participate in a five mile run. That goal took them on a thirty-seven year odyssey including numerous marathons and ironman competitions. Lastly, as I watch disabled athletes finish marathons, I am in awe of their perseverance! These individuals had every reason to make an excuse and quit, but they didn’t! This is what separates great athletes from others, mental fortitude the power of BELIEF! They believe in themselves and so should you!
So if you have any self-doubt during the Los Angeles marathon, repeat one of these phrases. They REALLY work!
I believe!
I can do it!
No excuses!
Someday is today!
If it were easy, everyone would do it!
I am unstoppable!
