NAMI|Fort Bend is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, our nation's largest grass-roots, mental health organization dedicated to making lives better. We are unpaid providers of services in English, Spanish, and Chinese for individuals and their families who have been affected by a mental illness. The purpose of WALK RUN TO OVERCOME is 1.) to provide an awareness of brain disorders 2.) to stop the stigma 3.) and bring hope to the disabled by initiating a fund for a Clubhouse Model where recovery is a real possibility.
Partnering with us Saturday, April 9, 2016, will help transform our community's perception of mental illness from a stigmatizing environment to a compassionate place where every person's identity is valued. Publicly addressing brain disorders associated with changes in the brain's structure, chemistry, and function will provide information for understanding. Early detection and treatment are the first steps toward recovery. Tragically, however, not recognizing the signs of a mental illness or experiencing symptoms of depression, bipolar, OCD, or schizophrenia causes people to not ask for help, fearing judgment, discrimination or isolation.
A brain disorder can affect any person, regardless of socio-economic level, educational level, race, or age.Trained volunteers of NAMI|Fort Bend provide services that clarify facts and eliminate mental health myths ciculating throughout our society. Silence is not healthy for anyone. Talking openly to tackle the stigma and provide quality education is our goal. Services we provide are:
