Movers & Shakers is a community of sports executives and athletes who are dedicated to support to help raise scholarship money for young adult cancer survivors. Every year there are over 70,000 young adults between the ages of 15 and 39 who are diagnosed with cancer every year (National Cancer Institute). The average Class of 2014 graduate with student-loan debt has to pay back some $33,000 (Wall Street Journal). As if enduring the hardships of cancer wasn't difficult enough.
"After being diagnosed with cancer, not only are
your finances affected, but also your motivation, hope, and aspirations.
My Hometown Heroes not only helped me go to college and start my
post-cancer life, but they also gave me the courage to chase my dreams
and the comfort of knowing Im not alone. Nothing will ever be able to
surpass that feeling."
Andrea - 2013/14 Recipient, University of Nevada
