On September 7, 2019, thousands will line the historic streets of the Village of Flossmoor to participate in or witness The Hidden Gem Half – Flossmoor’s inaugural half marathon through our historic neighborhoods, culminating in a grand celebration as we kick off Flossmoor Fest 2019. This inaugural event will bring a new generation of prospective “future Flossmoor residents and ambassadors” to see first-hand all our wonderful Village has to offer and showcase our community.
The race route – officially certified, sanctioned and publicized by the Chicago Runner’s Association (CARA) – will give race participants a first-hand view of all that makes Flossmoor special. Race participants will run past our schools. They will witness the beauty of our historic churches and places of worship. They will run next to our parks and golf courses, taking in the outdoor experiences Flossmoor has to offer. They will be exposed to beautiful homes in our historic neighborhoods, experience our vintage downtown, and – most importantly – get a personal view along the way into the tremendous sense of pride we have in our community, with the race culminating in the kickoff of Flossmoor Fest 2019.
With the tremendous support we have received from our local leaders and municipalities including the Village of Flossmoor, the Flossmoor Police Department, School Districts 161 and 233 and the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, we are excited to bring this inaugural event to Flossmoor. From a financial perspective, our objective is to “break even” while the broader Flossmoor community all benefits from the broader race exposure.
