Volunteers are needed for all activities associated with the production of Run Houston! Clear Lake, a family friendly running event that's part of the Run Houston! Race Series.

Positions that will need to be filled include directional flaggers, water stops, post race party, finish line team, etc. A detailed breakdown of all the positions can be found at http://runhouston.com/volunteer/positions/.

We don't have a minimum age requirement but do ask that volunteers under 16 years old be accompanied by an adult with a ratio of 5 children to 1 adult. All volunteers must register online via the Volunteer Houston event portal.

Course Directional Flagger
At critical points on the run course a flagger will present to direct athletes for turns and safety hazards. Safety vests and flags will be provided. All flaggers must remain at their assigned position until last athlete is past the position. Reports to Run Course Coordinator

Finish Line Team
Assist at finish line chute handing out water and finisher medals as athletes cross the finish line. The team will also select two members to hold the finish ribbon for the first male and female athletes that cross the finish line. After the last athlete has crossed the finish line the team will assist in the breakdown of the finish line. Reports to Finish Line Team Leader

Circulate the race site including the post race start line and finish line areas ensuring all trash is properly discarded. Volunteers working this position will be provided gloves and trash bags. Reports to Post Race Coordinator

Hydration Station & Course Setup
Assist in setting up the race site. This includes unloading material from trucks, setting up hydration station and race area (finish line, post race, etc), and ensuring the race site is “buttoned up” for race morning. The Operations Coordinator will be distributing volunteers to area-specific coordinators for directions. Heavy lifting may be required for this position. Reports to Operations Coordinator

Hydration-On Course
Includes preparing drinks and serving fuel (drinks and any other race provided items) to the athletes as the pass. Stations will be well stocked and drinks (water and Gatorade) should be handed out or offered to every runner. Part of the group will prepare Gatorade and will fill cups while the rest of the group will be handing out drinks to the athletes. As athletes approach volunteers should be yelling out what they are handing out so athletes can take what they need. After the final athlete has passed the hydration station, the team will break down the station. Reports to Hydration Station Coordinator

Packet Pickup
Distribute race packets during packet pick up. Packets include everything the athlete needs to compete and any promotional material. Volunteers are also responsible for the setup and breakdown of the packet pickup area. The final shift of early packet pickup will be responsible for complete breakdown and loading the trucks. This position includes both Early Packet Pickup and Race Day Packet Pickup Teams. Reports to Packet Pickup Team Leader

Post Race Team
Setup the post race area prior to athletes finishing and prepare food to be served. Once athletes begin to cross the finish line begin serving food to athletes as directed by the area coordinator. Several volunteers will be asked to clean the post race area during the event to keep it orderly. At the end of the event, begin breaking down the post race party and clean the area. Reports to Post Race Coordinator

Race Site Breakdown
Assist in breaking down the race site after the event is completed. This includes breaking down every area (swim, transition, finish line, post race, etc), packing and loading materials into the trucks, and cleaning all event areas. Reports to Operations Coordinator

Results & Awards Team
Assist in the setup and coordination of awards distribution and relaying the results from the timing tent to the awards area. Volunteers will also record any timing/results issues reported by athletes and will report them to the timing tent. Setup includes the awards display, podium, and media backdrop. Assist in preparing the start and finish line with any items that cannot be setup before the event including some promotional material and banners, and the medal and hydration stations.

Volunteer Waiver
Please read any waiver carefully. It includes a release of liability and waiver of legal rights and deprives you of the ability to sue certain parties. Do not agree to this document unless you have read and understood it in its entirety. By agreeing electronically, you acknowledge that you have both read and understood the text presented to you as part of the registration process. You also understand and agree that events carry certain inherent dangers and risks which may or may not be readily foreseeable, including without limitation personal injury, property damage or death. Your ability to participate in the event(s) is/are subject to your agreement to the waiver and by agreeing herein, you accept and agree to the terms of the waiver and release agreement. You must be over 18 years of age OR the parent/legal guardian of a minor under 18 years of age OR the legal guardian of an incapacitated and/or mentally challenged person in order to agree to the text below.
WAIVER:  In consideration of your accepting the entry, I, intending to be legally bound for myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators, waive and release any and all claims for damages I may have against all sponsors, the community of Run Houston! Race Series and their representatives, successors, and assigns, for any and all injuries suffered by me in this event.  I attest and verify that I am physically fit and have sufficiently trained for this event and that my physical condition has been recently verified by a licensed medical doctor.  I understand that there will be no refunds or transfers (giving my entry to another person), even if the race is cancelled in the event of bad weather or circumstances beyond Run Houston! Race Series control.  Further, I hereby grant full permission to any and all of the foregoing to use photographs, any images, videotapes, motion pictures, and recordings of me, or any other record of the event for legitimate purpose.  I understand that my name, address, and email address may be provided to photographers, sponsors, and other events related services for the purpose of giving me access to race photographs and any other service related to the race.  I agree to abide by the rules related to the event and show good sportsmanship or risk being ineligible for future events sanctioned by Run Houston! Race Series.

 

I understand that the event may be photographed, videotaped, or otherwise recorded, and I agree that Run Houston! Race Series may use my name and likeness (in any form without regard to distortions of character, form or color, or any other alteration) in photographs, videotapes, audiotapes, and other media, without any additional consideration to me or any third party.
