Fall 2020 USAFIT Austin Running, Walking & Bariatric Transition Walk Group Programs

Time: 7:00 AM (staggered start time)

USAFIT Austin’s (Austin Fit) FALL Training Program is back with FULL & HALF Marathon Training, AND, 10K for our bariatric walkers, led by USAFIT Certified Coaches. Austin Fit is all about helping others make positive and life altering changes. So, get ready for an uplifting, motivational, and TOTAL fitness experience. We truly cater to both newbies and experienced runners and walkers in our training program. For runners, we have coaches who train from 7:30 pace to a 13 pace. For Walk Fit and our new Bariatric Transition Walk Group, we have coaches who train from 14 plus pace to 20 pace.

USAFIT Austin’s (Austin Fit) FALL Training Program is organizing a Bariatric Transition Walk Group to be included in its annual training program. Linda Brown is the Chapter Director and Jeff Preston is the Bariatric Transition Walkers Coordinator. 

The program is as straightforward as its origins. Most of our members start small. Steadily and carefully, we work with them to build their mileage, fitness, and confidence until they reach their target goals. Members follow their provided training schedules independently during the week, and on the weekends, they get together for their coached long group workout and educational seminars.

PURPOSE FOR THE BARIATRIC TRANSITION WALK GROUP

To meet the needs of the bariatric community by transitioning from their previous lifestyle into a new lifestyle that ensures activity is a normal part of their everyday life routine. Eventually, the goal for the transition group is to graduate from this group and migrate into the other available Austin Fit groups whether it be our walking or running groups.

Fall Training Program

Jump Start Program - Start date August 22 at 7:00 a.m.

The Jump Start program is for a range of running goals and abilities. Whether you want to establish a running lifestyle, overcome an injury, increase from the 5K to the 10K distance, or dial things back to a strong base running, this is the group for you. As your coach, Coach Jessica will get to know each of you and your goals. Your run plan may be very individualized. Plans will be updated every 4 to 6 weeks. If you stay with Jump Start through February, we will spend a lot of time building you into a strong runner, getting you ready to make the next step in your goals.   
 
A typical Saturday may look like this;
  • Check in
  • Dynamic stretching
  • Run / possible demonstration on the run
  • Core and Strength work
  • Stretch
  • Q and A time with coach
For the first 6 weeks, we will focus on time rather than mileage. We will start off with 20 minutes and will work up to 60 minutes over the first 6 weeks. Each person may have a different run/walk ratio or may be using heart rate monitoring to determine run/walk. Heart rate monitor is NOT required. Don't fret! If 60 mins is overwhelming, we can dial back your time. 
 
This group is also a good place for anyone who needs a rest week or easier comeback after being out sick before rejoining the half or full.

The Jump Start program is for a range of running goals and abilities.
