The Northern Central Trail Marathon, Half Marathon, and two person Marathon Relay are held the Saturday after Thanksgiving in northern Baltimore County, Maryland. The majority of the course is run on the scenic and flat Northern Central Railroad Trail. The Half Marathon is the first leg of the Two-Person Relay. The Two-Person Relay covers the same route at the same time as the marathon. Each team member runs a 13.1 mile leg of the relay.
This year's races begin at 8:30AM on Saturday November 25th.
The marathon is the MD RRCA State Trail Marathon Championship and was profiled in the January 2009 issue of Runner’s World magazine as an alternate marathon you should consider.
The race is an out and back course primarily along the Northern Central Railroad Trail. The trail surface is a compacted combination of dirt and fine stone. The trail winds along the Gunpowder River, through quiet farmland. The start is at historic Oldfields School and will go downhill on Glencoe Rd. approximately .6 miles to the NCR trail where it will turn right onto the trail and will go out along the NCR trail to the turn around and then come back along the trail to finish on the trail back at Glencoe Rd. making this course the fastest Boston Qualifier for hundreds of miles.
Marathon, Half Marathon, and relay finishers will receive a medal at the finish. Unique awards based on the Northern Central Railway heritage for overall, masters, and age-group winners will be presented at an awards ceremony in the Oldfields gym following the race. Awards will not be mailed. Overall and masters award winners are not eligible for age group awards.
