Fundraising For SCOPE
Team WRECKtum is walking, running and giving in loving memory of Erin Scott who courageously fought colon cancer and formed the team in 2012.  Her efforts pulled nearly 100 team members together and contributed over $10,000 towards SCOPE's efforts of colorectal cancer prevention and education.

The 2012 race day, was also the day Erin checked out of MD Anderson for the last time to enter home hospice. The cancer treatments had been so successful that Erin chose to take the risk of suspending treatments to allow her to have colostomy reversal surgery. But it was during this break in chemo treatments that the cancer roared back and spread beyond where it could be battled.

Donations to SCOPE in Erin's memory will be put into the Erin Marie Scott Memorial Endowment which will continue to benefit SCOPE in perpetuity as well as fund an annual award, the Courageous Spirit Award, presented to a colon cancer survivor who exemplifies steadfast courage and positive spirit in face of their illness.

Thanks to colorectal cancer screening and advances in treatment, the death rate from colorectal cancer has declined. In fact, screening is also allowing more colorectal cancers to be found earlier when the disease is easier to cure. There are now more than 1 million survivors of colorectal cancer in the United States. Colorectal cancer screening can help save lives!

In order to help promote colorectal cancer screening, MD Anderson Cancer Center is hosting its 8th Annual SCOPE (Sprint for Colorectal Oncology Prevention and Education) 5K Fun Run/Walk.

SCOPE invites you to partner with us to build awareness, promote education and celebrate survivorship, Saturday, March 23, 2013.
