Event: 22nd ANNUAL SPRINT FOR LIFE
Fundraising For The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center: Ovarian Cancer Research

Thursday, May 2nd

I heard about this fundraiser this morning on the radio while driving to work, which was the morning right after texting with a close relative about her sister's status.  Her sister was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer, maybe two weeks ago.  She is only 47, married, two young children, super healthy, healthy lifestyle, always did her wellness checks.

But what I learned once I googled the event, is that there is no screening or early detection test available and ovarian cancer symptoms are subtle, only 25% of ovarian tumors are detected before they have progressed to an advanced stage. This year, about 22,440 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 14,070 women will die, making ovarian cancer the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers.

I decided to set a big audacious goal of raising $5,000 by Saturday in honor of this family.  But this is for everyone!  The money "helps fund clinical and translational research for ovarian cancer. This also includes grants for new areas of research that improve detection, prevention, treatment, and positively impact survivorship."

I want to do my part to make a difference in someone's life.  Please consider donating any amount for Ovarian Cancer research and awareness!  This could save someone's life who is close to you!
