2021 USA FIT MARATHON, FORT BEND KIA HALF MARATHON, AND SIMON SPINE VIRTUAL 5K

COVID OPERATING PLAN

  • All participants and volunteers must register online.  Online registration ends the day before the event or when sold out.  There is no registration race morning. Packet Pick up will be over 2 days with extended hours.  Masks and social distancing will be mandatory.
  • “In Person” participation will be limited to 600 for the Marathon and Half Marathon combined. Participants also have the option to race the Half or Full Marathon “virtually”.  Hand Cycle participants must supply their own support person to help them on the course at the turn-around point at the end of Private Road.
  • 5K registration is “Virtual” only.
  • Participants who register for a "Virtual" race will run/walk their race on a day, place and time that is of their choosing....other than at the event.
  • Marathon and Half Marathon participants will start in “waves” that will be 5 to 10 minutes apart, beginning at 6:30 a.m.  Each wave will consist of 100 participants of varying speeds so the group is not bunched up.  The participants will be assigned a “wave/start time” prior to race day.  Participants are asked to remain in their vehicle until 10 minutes before their start time.  When the race chute is clear from the previous wave, participants can enter but must wear their masks until they start the race and are clear of the start line.  The race chute will be marked on the ground with spots 6 feet apart for participants to stand, prior to their race start.  Participants are required to put their masks on as soon as they finish the race.  They will be encouraged to return to their vehicles and leave the event site after they race.
  • Aid Stations will be at their normal points on the course.  Water and Gatorade will be provided.  Be aware that volunteers will not hand fluids to participants.  Tables will be spaced to allow ample space for participants to remain 6 feet apart as they take hydration.  Hand sanitizer will be available.  Volunteers will wear masks and gloves and stand 6 feet apart from each other and participants.
  • Post race refreshments will consist of fruit and pre-packaged items that will be available to pick up beyond the finish line, along with medals and finisher shirts.
  • No one will be allowed at the event site or in the race chute without a mask.  Spectators will not be allowed at the event site this year.  The event will be for participants only.
  • No BAG CHECK.
  • Volunteers will be required to wear masks at all times.  Both volunteers and participants will be required to sign an electronic acknowledgement testifying that they are not ill and will not come to the event if they have fever, feel sick in any way, have been exposed to anyone with COVID, and/or have been sick in the last two weeks.  People with compromised immune systems, health issues, and/or are age 65 and over will be strongly encouraged to NOT attend the event.
  • We will not have a pre or post race party this year.  There will not be an awards ceremony.  The race site event will consist of portable restrooms, hand washing stations, tables with packaged event medals, tables with Finisher shirts, and several tables with hydration and packaged snacks for “grab and go”. Hand sanitizer will be in abundance at the event and on tables near the portable restrooms.
  • The City of Sugar Land,  Fort Bend County, State of Texas, and local health officials have the right to revoke our permit at any time due to COVID. If the permit for our live, in person event is revoked, the event will become "virtual". Participants registered for the live event will have the option to move their entry to "virtual", or to "defer" their race to 2022. Participants who registered for a virtual race, before the permit was revoked, will remain in the virtual race without the option to defer. There will be no refunds.
