San Antonio Scorpions, the Curing Children’s Cancer Fund, sports broadcaster Glenn Davis, and Team Nico have teamed-up to host the 3rd Annual KICK CHILDHOOD CANCER SOCCER CLINIC.
The Clinic brings together children and youth for soccer training with professional, collegiate and club coaches while raising awareness and funds to support childhood cancer research.
Each year in the U.S., an estimated 15,780 children between the ages of birth and 19 years of age are diagnosed with cancer. All funds raised are donated to the Curing Children's Cancer Fund find a cure for childhood cancer by providing financial support for some of the country’s leading pediatric cancer researchers.
The clinic was started in 2012 to honor and remember Nicolás “Nico” Ramírez Castro. Nico began playing soccer at a very young age and dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player. However, on November 18, 2012, after a 16-month battle with a rare cancer, Nico departed this earth. He was only 11 years old. Nico’s passion for life, his love of soccer and the lifelong-lessons inspired his family and friends to organize the Kick Childhood Cancer Soccer Clinic in San Antonio.
