Beginning in 2010, Kiwanis International joined forces with UNICEF and created the ELIMINATE project, a world-wide health initiative dedicated to eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus. In 2010 MNT took the lives of over 100,000 babies each year. Now, only a few short years later the death toll has decreased to 60,000 annually. The great news is maternal and neonatal tetanus is preventable! Three rounds of a vaccine, each costing $0.60, is all a woman needs to protect herself and all of her future children from suffering from MNT.

Our goal for fundraising is $36,000 which is enough money to save the lives of 20,000 babies. This is how your donation could affect the lives of others:
Cameroon
Apum Bridget, a 45- year-old grandmother, sits by the small grave of her grandson. Eyah passed away just 15 days after delivery. She explained: Eyah was born at home. My daughter started labor at night, there was no vehicle to take her to the hospital. The newborn and the mother were doing fine for the first 6 days, and then the child started developing continuous spasm and neck stick. He was rushed to Tiben district hospital. In the hospital, the newborn was diagnosed with tetanus and he died 9 days later.
Cote d'Ivoire
Sabra Seydou arrived at the Abobo Kennedy clinic in Abidjan with only a few minutes to spare before giving birth. Extreme poverty has meant Sabra could not afford pre-natal tests or consultations. She was however able to have her first vaccination against tetanus, provided free by the Ivoirian government. Her second vaccination, that which would provide immunity against the deadly bacteria for herself and her child, was scheduled for the next week.
