Thanks to colorectal cancer screening and advances in treatment, the death rate from colorectal cancer has declined. In fact, screening is also allowing more colorectal cancers to be found earlier when the disease is easier to cure. There are now more than 1 million survivors of colorectal cancer in the United States. Colorectal cancer screening can help save lives!

In order to help promote colorectal cancer screening, MD Anderson Cancer Center is hosting its 8th Annual SCOPE (Sprint for Colorectal Oncology Prevention and Education) 5K Fun Run/Walk.

SCOPE invites you to partner with us to build awareness, promote education and celebrate survivorship, Saturday, March 23, 2013.

Fundraising for SCOPE

In memory of my friend and coworker, Liz Hold Reyna, I am running the MD Anderson S.C.O.P.E. 5K. Liz had a passion for the MD Anderson S.C.O.P.E. 5K Run/1K Run/Walk.  Five years ago her lifelong friend Donna Martine passed away from colorectal cancer and Liz made it her mission to keep Donnas legacy alive by spearheading a team which was named TEAM DONNA.  Ironically, in 2011 when Liz was getting married the wedding coincided with the SCOPE Walk, yet she made it to the walk as if nothing was going to stop her.  In 2013, it was happening again, as the Walk was going to coincide with the birth of her baby boy Evan, but again, she wasnt planning to miss it.  We all know that she will be there in spirit this year.

We would like to pay tribute to Liz for her passion and to keep both her and her best friends legacies alive.  Colorectal Cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States when men and women are considered separately, and the second leading cause when both sexes are combined.  In order to help promote colorectal cancer screening, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is hosting its 8th Annual S.C.O.P.E (Sprint for Colorectal Oncology Prevention and Education) 5K Fun Run/Walk.
