John and I are participating in the Heroes for Children Heart of Gold 5K Run/Walk and 1K Family Fun Run on Saturday, September 27, 2014 to raise money for families battling childhood cancer.

Every week, Heroes for Children spends approximately $15,000- $20,000 in program services to support families across the state of Texas who are struggling while their child is being treated for cancer. A childhood cancer diagnosis usually requires one of the parents to quit working. The money Heroes for Children donates to families helps relieve some of the strain and stress during this difficult time. Your support will enable families to focus on the most important part of cancer treatment - the child.

The average financial assistance grant is $750 to assist towards necessary expenses such as mortgage/rent, utilities, car payments, or even funerals for children who have lost their battle to cancer.  Financial assistance is the largest program and main focus of Heroes for Children.  More than $50,000 is provided each month in direct financial assistance.  September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month- Help us spread the word about Heroes for Children and the great work they are doing for families in Texas.
