EVENT INFORMATION

Welcome to the Herring Run 6 Hour Race!

Date – May 16, 2020

Race Time – 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Packet Pickup – starting at 7:00 AM on race day

Concept – Complete as many loops as you can (or care to) complete between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Complete 1 loop or 25 loops, you are a finisher! Most completed loops wins the race (no loop completed after 2:00 PM is counted in the official total).

Course – A clockwise 1.75 mile (approximately) loop on the asphalt path (and a brief section of concrete sidewalk) in Herring Run Park between Bel Air Road and Harford Road. The course has little elevation gain/loss and is mostly shaded, running along the Herring Run. There is also a neat pedestrian bridge crossing over the Herring Run. Course marshals will be at key points in the course to ensure that you keep to the posted course.

Swag – All participants will receive a custom drop bag and a personalized finisher’s award at the end of the race.

Awards – Decorative awards (TBD) will be awarded to the top 3 male and female runners and the top male and female runners over 50. Most completed loops wins. In the case of a tie, the person who completed the loops in the shortest period of time wins.

Aid – There will be one aid station at the start/finish line. There will be 2 porta-potties, water, Gatorade, soda, and a variety of sweet and salty snacks.

*** In an effort to limit our environmental impact, this will be a CUPLESS race! All participants must bring their own water bottle and/or a collapsible cup on race day.

Drop Bags – There will be an area for drop bags at the start/finish/aid area. Each participant is allowed 1 drop bag, which will be tagged with your bib number and collected before the start of the race. Volunteers will be available to assist you with accessing your drop bag during the race.

Basic Rules

  • Pass on the left, walk on the right. If you need to pass and someone is obstructing your path, call out “On your left!” and thank people who move right to allow you to pass. You may veer onto the grass momentarily to pass if needed.
  • Please run or walk no more than 2 people wide along the path to allow people to pass. On the sidewalk along Bel Air Road and the pedestrian bridge over Herring Run, please run or walk in a single line to allow people to pass. You may not run on Bel Air Road at all for any reason.
  • Portable speakers will not be permitted on course. If you prefer to listen to music, bone conducting headphones are preferred or 1 earbud only to allow you to hear when people need to pass on the course.
  • Leave no trace on the course. Please deposit all refuse in a trash can along the course or at the start/finish. Anyone caught littering on course will be disqualified.
  • If you choose to stop racing before 2:00 PM, check in with the timer to check out so that we can close out your results. You may also receive your finisher’s award at this time.
  • You may take breaks to go to your car or for any other reason and return to the race later. Check in and out with the timer so that we know that you are not lost on course.
  • No loops may be started after 1:50 PM. Only loops completed by 2:00 PM will be counted in the official results.
