THE CAPITAL PURSUIT

Capital Pursuit is Capital Strider's premier 10-mile race that takes participants through the best parts of the City of Des Moines. This year we will be at beautiful Easter Lake and along the Carl Voss Trail. There is also a 4 mile run/walk for those participants who prefer that distance. In its 41st running, make sure not to miss one of Des Moines' longest-running traditions!

The Capital Striders are a member of the Road Runners Club of America, which promotes the development of community-based running clubs and events in the pursuit of health and competition for all ages. RRCA provides support and race insurance for many of its 2,500 member organizations.

Time: 8:30 AM start for the 10 Mile and 4 Mile races
10:45 AM for Pursuit Junior

Starting Line: Easter Lake Park, just east of the North Shore Recreation Center

COURSE HYDRATION: There are multiple water stations on the 10 mile and 4 mile courses. Because the course is looped there will be multiple opportunities to visit the same water station. Gatorade will be available.

CALLING ALL ELITES: The Capital Pursuit road race is again offering free entry to elite runners who meet time qualifications for the 10-mile race. The standards for the featured race are 55 minutes for the men, 1:00 for the women, or equivalent times for shorter or longer races within the past 15 months. PACKET PICKUP:

Race Morning (9/14) near the start line just east of the North Shore Recreation Area from from 7:30 - 8:15 AM

AWARDS:
The top three males and females in the 10 mile and 4 mile races will receive cash prizes. To be presented at 10AM.

In the 10-mile race, awards will be given to the top three males/females in 6 age groups.  The age categories are:   19 and under; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60+.

Awards & post-race ceremony will be announced as the event gets closer!

PURSUIT JR. INFORMATION:

The Pursuit Junior kids' races are free; however, registration is required.

Participants can register at the Pursuit Jr. Table near the finish line on race day. Parents/guardians will need to sign a waiver prior to their child participating in the race. Participants will receive a t-shirt and a participation ribbon or medal.

The announcer will ask the various age divisions to report to the Pursuit Jr. table at approximately 10:30AM.

Beginning at approximately 10:45 a.m., kids will run part of the course near the start line. Kids will be broken into the following 3 age groups:

Ages 4 & under: 10:45 AM - run approx. 100 meters
Ages 5-8: 10:50 AM - run approx. 250 meters
Ages 9-12: 10:55 AM - run approx. 400 meters
