Winter/Spring Training – 2020

The program will safely guide runners through an organized training schedule with the goal of improving running endurance, strength and speed.

RRCA Certified coaches designed this Winter/Spring Training Program for runners who are looking to participate in races ranging in distances up to the half marathon. 

Races covered in this program include BRRC events such as the Cupid’s Crush 5 Miler, St. Patrick’s Day 5k and the Freeland 15k.  The program will leave you in good shape to compete in the various distances of our Summer Track Meet Series.  You will also be prepared for other local races, such as Parkrun 5k’s, The Frederick 5k & Half Marathon and the Baltimore 10 Miler.  

The BRRC has been selected as the official training partner of the The Frederick 5k & Half Marathon and the Baltimore 10 Miler.  As a bonus to training group participants, the race organizers have offered a 15% discount to these races.

Under the leadership of experienced and RRCA certified coaches, runners will be introduced to topics such as proper running techniques, pacing, developing a race strategy, speed work, hydration, dynamic and static stretching, etc.

All levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced, but participants interested in the running the 10 miler or a Half Marathon should have, at a minimum, some experience running (or run/walking) races that are 5K and/or 10K in length and be able to run 3 or more days per week.


Dates: February 1, 2020 through June 6, 2020

The group will typically meet on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.  A workout schedule will be provided to all participants.

Thursday evenings are for speed training – Goucher College, 1021 Dulaney Valley Road Towson, MD 21204

    Time: The workout starts promptly at 7:00PM.  Please arrive early enough to warm up and be ready to run at 7:00

Saturday mornings the group will meet at a variety of locations, generally for long runs, but also for the occasional Parkrun 5k. The locations will be outlined in the forthcoming training schedule.

    Loch Raven Reservoir (LRR) –Corner of Morgan Mill Road & Loch Raven Drive

    NCR Trail - 1237 Sparks Rd, Sparks Glencoe, MD 21152                 

        Time: Workout starts promptly at 7:00AM

    Parkrun - Winan’s Meadow, North Franklintown Road, West Baltimore, Maryland 21229

        Parkruns are free for all participants and generally start at 9:00 AM, but we will likely meet earlier for warm ups and extra, pre-race miles.

Costs:  The fee for this training program is included in your annual BBRC membership.  ** Note that you are responsible to sign up for and pay for any races that are not free to club members. **  But remember, a 15% discount code will be supplied for the Frederick Running Festival races and the Baltimore 10 miler to those who participate in this training program.
