It's hot out there. Let's focus on swimming this month. Come splash and dash at Twin Lakes on Saturday August 17th for our monthly social. We'll grill some hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch and Coach Kyle Davenport will give us some swim tips. Coach Davenport is a local triathlon coach. Click here for his bio. Those who want to participate in a fun competition will do a 500ish yard swim and 1 mile run. Friends are always welcome but the club only pays the entry fee for members. Your friends can join on the day of the splash and dash for a free entry on the club.
The last day to purchase Twin Lakes swim vouchers for $5 to use for the 2024 season is at the August 17th Splash and Dash. The club will be using the remaining vouchers to pay for the Twin Lake entries that day. Once you have a voucher just hand it to the person at the gate or put it in the mailbox if swimming off hours. The vouchers will be available to purchase at the social or you can contact Leo, the HRTC treasurer, at treasurer@houstonracing.com to make other arrangements.
David Ortiz from Swim Houston Aquatics Center has invited us to check out the facility. Anytime on Sunday August 25, you can swim at the aquatic center. Just let the front desk know you are with HRTC. At 1 pm we will have a master's swim class. Come join and improve your swim stroke.
Attending the splash and dash or swimming at the Swim Houston Aquatics Center will earn you a ticket for the grand prize at the Christmas Party. Attend both and you will gain 2 tickets. I've attached the ticket count. Let any board member know if we are missing any event for you.

Coach John's Tip for the month
We all know how humid Houston is, especially in August! Combined with Houston’s temperatures, you will lose significant amounts of fluid while training outdoors. It is critical for your health, training, and recovery that you properly and sufficiently hydrate before, during, and after training sessions. This includes not only adequate water intake, but electrolytes as well. I recommend a high dose of electrolytes the night before and morning prior to key sessions. Knowing both your sweat rate and electrolyte concentration will ensure proper hydration to nail your training and racing!
