Hydration Stations

Hydrating & supporting the Chicagoland community year-round

CARA hydration stations along and near the Chicago Lakefront Trail are in action for CARA training programs and are open and welcoming to the public so all runners can stay hydrated on the Lakefront Trail.

Each CARA hydration station serves water and Gatorade Endurance Formula, a specialized sports drink formulated with nearly 2x the sodium and 3x the potassium of traditional Gatorade. Gatorade Endurance Formula contains no artificial flavors and has a light taste. Gatorade is served on the course at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and properly hydrating at CARA hydration stations will ensure runners that they are prepared for their individual hydration needs on race day.

Individuals interested in volunteering at hydration stations should e-mail jillian@cararuns.org.

Stations are open nearly year-round, and based on CARA training program mileage schedules. Lakefront Trail hydration station locations may include Montrose Beach Comfort Station, Waveland Parking Lot, Diversey Harbor/CARA Water Trough, Lakeshore East Park, Randolph Street, 31st Street Beach, Oakwood Beach, and Promontory Point (See above schedule). Runners may also find information on additional hydration stations on the Lakefront Trail provided by RAM/Fleet Feet Sports HERE.

Additional hydration stations are available when training programs are in action at CARA suburban training sites at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve, Oak School Forest Preserve, Bunker Hill Forest Preserve, Yankee Woods, Busse Woods Forest Preserve, and along the Illinois Prairie Path near Wheaton. Some unmanned suburban stations may not be public (please look for signs indicating).
