MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Please join me in welcoming Candice McField to our January meeting. Candice is an expert health and fitness coach and the founder of Candice McField Fitness (CMF), which provides fitness solutions that help her clients reach their fitness potential. She is an ACE Certified Health Coach, fitness educator and is the host of "Conversations with Candice" on the Fox 4 Kansas City Morning Show (Check out her most recent segment "The 12 Days of Fitness" by visiting fox4kc.com). I'm excited that we will start our first KC Express meeting of 2019 with tips and suggestions on how to reach our fitness goals from Candice. Hope you can make it to the meeting!

Speaking of fitness goals, most of us tend to focus on what we have accomplished over the past year and what we hope for for the coming New Year. We all have different things that motivate us to exercise. It might be getting in another 5K, or starting to train for a 1/2 marathon or marathon. Or perhaps it's keeping ourselves mentally focused with the benefits that exercise provides and the camaraderie of being with our exercise buddies. What I have been thinking of recently as my fitness goal for the coming New Year, is "Training for a Rainy Day".

Whether you've had an exercise injury or a surgery/illness, it's hard to slow down and give our body the time it needs to heal. We've all experienced that feeling from time to time and it can be frustrating. One of the benefits of exercising and keeping ourselves active is that when we go through those healing periods, and the more fit we are, the better prepared we are to physically bounce back from those setbacks. Just like planning for that "Rainy Day" when the unexpected surprises us, let's "Train for a Rainy Day". Keep yourself active, walk/run a little longer, work yourself up to lifting heavier weights, keep your body limber by stretching exercises or yoga, strengthen your core with Pilates. Whatever you like to do when it comes to exercise, push yourself a little more each day this coming New Year so that your body is physically ready for the unexpected . I hope that you will join me in training this New Year for that Rainy Day.

Wishing you and your families good health and all the best for the coming New Year!
