Dear Members:

I'm sure we are all in agreement that these are strange times for everyone, and challenging for those of us who thrive on endurance training and racing. Training facilities, including pools and gyms, are closed. And races have been postponed or cancelled.

Many of us are trying to keep our sanity by getting outside to run or ride our bikes. But we have to be responsible in doing so. Are trails safe? It's hard to say. 6' is a wide distance to give on a narrow single-track, and information has come out recently suggesting that athletes breathing hard should probably provide up to 20' of distancing. Whoa that's impossible on a trail! But maybe if everyone did their part, we could reduce the risk.

When on trails, please wear some sort of face guard. No, a bandana or buff won't keep "you" safe from the COVID-19 virus, but it could help keep you from affecting others (if you were asymptomatic). What I do is wear a "buff" around my neck until I see another trail user. I then pull it up over my nose and mouth and keep it there for at least a minute after passing the other trail user. So please, do your part to help keep our trails safe.

Zoca2 | MASK

The CDC has strongly recommended the wearing of cloth masks in public areas to slow down the spread of the corona virus. So we want to help by making an affordable, comfortable, washable and reusable mask. Every time 5 masks we sell, Zoca will donate one to mask to healthcare providers through an organization like Masks4medicine.

TRAINING

Mentorship: for those of you just getting into the sport of triathlon and needing training guidance, we have experienced members who are willing to help. Contact me and I will pair you up with another member.

Strava: Last year we started a Strava group for members to join and follow each other. If you are a Strava user, this is a great way to see what other members are doing and also compare your timed segments to. We will also be planning soon a virtual Tri challenge using Strava, both an off-road challenge and a road challenge. Details soon to come!

Dry-Land Swim exercises: The first video is by XTERRA great, pro-athlete Josiah Middaugh, describing his stretch cord routine. This is one my coach, Jenny Smith, sent me.  The second video is by DTC member/officer, Reid Allen. I really like Reid's video as it goes beyond strength drills, and attempts to mimic as close as possible a real swim workout.

MEMBERSHIP - MEMBER ONLY ACTIVITIES

As we have had to stop group workouts and social activities, we will be adding 2 months to all memberships for those who have renewed theirs since 1/1/2020 and for those who renew as their membership expires.

Member only upcoming activities include:

  1. Free "Virtual" Newbie Tri Clinic
  2. Free Open Water Clinic (I will forward an email from one of our sponsors, XTERRA Wetsuits containing amazing deals)
  3. Mock local triathlons in order to test potential 2021 club sponsored races. These will be non-timed races (with the optional exception of Strava) and open only to active members. This will allow us to treat the event as a group training exercise, covered by the club's General Liability Insurance. Current race courses include: Olympic distance road tri from Lake Nighthorse, Off-Road starting from McPhee Reservoir/Little Bean Canyon trail, and a duathlon at the Spurline Trail.

STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY OUT THERE!!!
