ARLINGTON TURKEY TROT

The Arlington Turkey Trot, sponsored by Christ Church of Arlington, provides an opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy a fun, healthy Thanksgiving activity together, and to raise support for five local charities: Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), A-SPAN, Bridges to Independence (formerly AACH), Doorways for Women & Families (Doorways), and Arlington thrive.

Arlington Food Assistance Center

Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) is dedicated to providing supplemental groceries to Arlington residents who cannot afford to purchase sufficient food to meet their basic needs. It complements the work of AACH, Doorways, the Arlington County Department of Human Services, Arlington churches, and other social service agencies by providing groceries to families and individuals referred by those organizations. For more information or to get involved, contact Clare McIntyre at clare.mcintyre@afac.org. ~ Read more about AFAC.

Arlington Street Peoples Assistance Network (A-SPAN)

A-SPAN's vision is to end homelessness in Arlington County. Founded in 1988 by a few concerned residents, A-SPAN helps to secure permanent housing and provide life-sustaining services for our homeless neighbors in Arlington, including many veterans, through community outreach and relationship built on trust and respect. For more information or to get involved, contact Scott Miller at smiller@a-span.org.Learn more about A-SPAN.

Arlington Thrive

Arlington Thrive delivers same-day emergency funds to our neighbors in crisis, so they can be secure in their jobs, health, and homes and thrive in a caring community. We provide "just enough emergency financial assistance at just the right time" to Arlington residents who are in a financial crisis and by doing so, help to prevent more serious consequences such as eviction from a home or job loss due to an untreated illness. We are the only organization in Arlington which provides same-day emergency financial assistance. Our vision is an Arlington community where all have homes, are financially stable, and thrive. For more information, contact Shandra Niswander, Director of Development at niswander@arlingtonthrive.org Read more about Arlington Thrive.

Bridges to Independence (formerly AACH)

Bridges to Independence does more than offer shelter to homeless people, it provides them with a foundation to rebuild their lives. Created in 1985 by concerned citizens of Arlington and Alexandria, Bridges to Independence works in coordination with public agencies, businesses and community groups to give homeless people the support, shelter, counseling and employment training they need to regain self-sufficiency. For more information or to get involved, contact Carlin Anderson at canderson@bridges2.org. Read more about Bridges to Independence

Doorways for Women and Families

Doorways for Women and Families provides support to local women and families in need. Beginning with a safe place to stay and continuing with holistic support services, Doorways creates pathways out of domestic violence and homelessness toward safe and stable lives. Doorways works to address the root causes of homelessness or violence and offers holistic programs to every woman and family they serve. Along with the help of the Arlington community, that work continues until independence and family safety can be sustained. For more information regarding Doorways contact Linley Beckbridge at lbeckbridge@doorwaysva.org ~ Read more about Doorways.
